12 men on bicycles were sent out as a ‘diverting party’ from the
Garrison at Jacob’s biscuit factory to draw the attack off Boland’s Mill.
1 cyclist Volunteer rebel died.
Also during the week of the 1916 Rising
40 children died,
318 civilians died,
50 rebel volunteers died,
7 Irish rebel leaders died,
130 British soldiers died
They died either by execution, bombs, gunfire or by being caught up in violent sieges causing ‘collateral damage’ as its known today.
Why in 2016 do we still condone and commemorate violent events?
