This project was devised, designed and coordinated by Pamela de Brí, artist and member of Leinster Printmaking Studio, with the indespensible assistance of Margaret Becker, artist, Director and Manager of the Leinster Printmaking Studio, Clane, Co Kildare
Pamela de Brí is a multimedia artist based in Co. Kildare. She works in a variety of media including photography, video, painting and printmaking. She is interested in Irish cultural heritage, social, historical and industrial narratives.
Her most recent project "Midland –Lár Tíre. Cycling the MGWR from Past to Present" was viewed by over 16,000 people in National Photographic Archive from January to May 2015. The bilingual multimedia installation consisted of photographs, audio clips, maps, video, notebooks and sculptural work, it was the culmination of four years research and documentation, gathered when the artist cycled and explored the 1,000 km route of the former Midland Great Western Railway. She was invited to show the work in venues as part of Heritage week 2015.
Pamela has had numerous solo shows and has exhibited and been reviewed internationally. She has received awards and residencies from Kildare County Council Arts Service, Culture Ireland, Foras Na Gaeilge, CCAT International.
An early member of the Leinster Printmaking Studio, Co Kildare, she coordinated a collaboration between Leinster Printmaking Studio and Print Centre, Wrexham which toured venues in Ireland, Wales, Sth Australia, 2009-12. (see: http://lecheileprintproject.blogspot.ie)
Margaret Becker founded the Leinster Printmaking Studio in Clane in 1998. Up to then Margaret had a wide and varied life within the world of art. After graduating from N.C.A.D. she worked in "An Toir Gloinne" with Patrick Pollen and afterwards shared a studio with Patrick Pye in Herbert St., Dublin. She joined the Graphic Studio in 1972. Margaret has won many awards and has worked on commissions for stained glass windows all over Ireland (ref. the shell guide to Ireland 1983 by Peter Harbison), and Europe. She won the Biennale prize for print in Listowel during Writers Week and was awarded 1st prize for her stained glass panel celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Messenger Magazine, in an International Competition for the event in Dublin.
Margaret is currently working from the Leinster Print Studio in Clane and during the past years has initiated a collaboration with the Welsh print makers, resulting in a series of exhibitions in Ireland, Wales and Australia.
Margaret introduced the BOG exhibition to Eigse festival in 2010. This exhibition was curated by Peter Jones. With the help of Michael Jacobson the project explored all aspects of the bog. It later toured to Inverness. Most recently Margaret initiated Duanaire, an exhibition curated by Alice Hanratty and Mick O'Dea which was based on "Duanaire, Poems of the Dispossessed" and the Joyce Exhibition, based on 'A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man".
Margaret's prints are currently on show in Canada, Hong Kong and Scotland.
