One of the most important (and little known) events in the arming of the Volunteers occurred on 1st August 1914.
The yacht ‘Chotah’ was loaned by Sir Thomas Myles to the
triumvirate mission leadership of Michael the O’Rahilly,
Erskine Childers and Sir Roger Casement. Having an engine enabled the yacht to land close to the shore and arrange an accurate nighttime arrival. Some six hundred rifles (of Prussian origin) and 20,000 rounds of ammunition were safely unloaded and hidden.
