When researching this project I came across the letter of surrender by Padraig Pearse from the 1916 Easter Rising. It was written on card from the back of an old picture frame and Elizabeth O Farrell

delivered it to the British Forces carrying a Red Cross flag.

 

I was attracted to the composition of the letter on the website which was similar to a flag as well as the colour and the texture of the card. The final image echoes a cross, which symbolises Padraig Pearse

sealing his fate when he wrote the letter of surrender.
